Monthly Competition Rules
General information
When
Monthly competitions are held from February through to November (10 times each year).
Judging is held on the 1st Monday of each month, except for public holidays. Check the club calendar for updates.
Eligibility
All financial and life members are eligible to enter. Associate members are ineligible to enter.
Categories
Each monthly competition has two categories:
• SET subject
• OPEN subject
The Set Subject topics can be found on the club website.
Grades
These monthly competition rules apply to all grades/all members:
• Gold
• A
• AB
• B
See below for further information regarding grading.
Types
Images may be entered either as DIGITAL entries or PRINT entries or combinations of both.
For a greater appreciation of the current creative skills of our members, it’s preferable for members to be seen to be entering their most recent work in the monthly competitions rather than earlier work from past years.
Cut-off dates
The cut-off date for entries to be submitted in any monthly competition is the Monday evening one month prior to the judging evening for that competition. For dates, refer to the ACC website’s events calendar
Number of entries
Each member may submit a maximum of 4 images each month:
2 x digital
• 1 x set
• 1 x open
If a member is submitting only 1 image, it may be either Set or Open.
2 x print
• 1 x set
• 1 x open
If a member is submitting only 1 image, it may be either Set or Open.
Submitting entries
All entries are submitted through the Aspley Camera Club MPC Entries portal. The link “Competitions MPC” is on the top menu of each page on the Aspley Camera Club’s website and will take you to the Entries portal.
Important: This includes a digital version of any print entry.
The digital version of your print entry is required for projection at the judging evening.
Judges do not receive the digital version; judging is done from the print.
Judges’ marks and points
Judges will mark each image, in all grades, as either an Acceptance, a Merit or an
Honour.
• Acceptance = 5 Points
• Merit = 10 points
• Honour = 15 points
Re-entering images
• An image (or substantially similar image) having gained two Acceptances or one Merit or Honour may not be re-entered in another monthly competition.
• An image may be entered in the End of Year competition.
• This ineligibility extends to monthly competitions in subsequent years regardless of the grade entered.
• The same image (or substantially similar image) may not be entered in more than one category or medium in any one competition.
For all entries, Digital and/or Print…
• No late entries can be accepted.
• You must be logged in to the website to enter.
• The entry must be the exclusive work of the member. AI generated images are not permitted. ACC abides by the PSQ Guidelines which state “Images using AI-generated technology are not to be used in club competition.”
• This applies to the set-up, shooting and post processing of the entry. This does not apply to the printing of an entry. The print may be made by commercial printing services providing no interpretive changes are made to the image.
• An entry will be received into the competition in the belief that these expectations have been met by the member.
